To be completely honest, I have absolutely no idea where our mascot originally came from. To those of you who are reading this due to your burning curiosity, I apologize. I started at Tailored Management 3 and a half years ago in a sales role and I have been asked this question approximately 928,243 times. Every client/ prospective client I have ever met with seems to ask “So tell me, where did the penguin come from?!”
Over the years I have invented several stories I tend to tell. The first involves the owner of our company, Brad, having a love for the species. Another involves one of our candidates showing up to an interview in a full tuxedo (I normally get a funny look when I tell this one). And of course there is the obvious affiliation with the word “Tailored” and the tailored suit or tux that penguins “wear”.
If you take a look at other companies that have a mascot, such as the Planter’s Peanut, the GEICO Gecko, etc., you associate one with the other. The same goes for TM and our cute penguin named Tailor. Mascots are a terrific way to create brand recognition. While companies most likely spend serious amounts of money to create their mascot (GEICO reportedly spent $1.1 billion on marketing in 2012), we obtained our mascot essentially for free with the purchase of Tailored Management back in the early 2000s.
In an ultra-competitive industry like staffing, it is crucial to stand out amongst the competition- not only with brand recognition, but also with stellar performance. We pride ourselves in always rising to be a top performing supplier in every contingent labor program we partner with. Our unique staffing model is one of the many things that set us apart from the competition. We service all of our clients (most of which are Fortune 1000 companies, and most of which operate their programs in a VMS/MSP environment) from our “Centralized Recruiting Hub” in Columbus, Ohio. Quarter after quarter we outperform the other suppliers on the vendor lists. Our incredible team of recruiters and account managers, and our lack of numerous offices across the country are two components I attribute to our success.
With a company as unique as our mascot, Tailored Management is able to be a true agent of change in the recruiting world. If you want to find out more about these key difference makers, don’t hesitate to give us a call. We promise not to be as cold as our mascot’s habitat.
We’d love to hear your thoughts on it.
